The World Arranged: Claire Messud

Claire MessudPublished in April, the May-June issue of Poets & Writers features my profile of the wonderful Claire Messud. Most widely known for her 2006 novel The Emperor’s Children, Messud recently published her fierce new novel, The Woman Upstairs.

Here’s the profile, The World Arranged (pdf, and a big one), and here’s a link to Daphne Merkin’s bookforum review of the novel. Merkin’s review is a bit cold on Messud’s earlier career. I disagree with Merkin on that point, but this is a nice, substantive piece.
